Event Notes
The String Quartet in America with The Calidore String Quartet Jeffrey Myers and Ryan Meehan, violinists Jeremy Berry, violist Estelle Choi, cellist

This program celebrates the influence of American culture on the string quartet canon. Often compared to Mozart, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a Viennese-Jewish wunderkind who immigrated to America in the 1930’s, went on to become one of the star composers of Hollywood, counting among his films The Adventures of Robin Hood. But in America he continued his prolific production of stunning classical works, including his third string quartet which is included in this final Explorers Series concert. Paired with Antonín Dvořák’s adored American quartet, composed in Spillville, Iowa, this concert pays heartfelt tribute to the inspiration found on our shores.

ERICH WOLFGANG KORNGOLD (1897–1957) String Quartet no. 3 in D major, op. 34 (1945) Allegro moderato Scherzo: Allegro molto Sostenuto: Like a Folk Tune Finale: Allegro
